Medallion quilts are a classic and beguiling quilt form. Quilts are built around a central feature, and layers and rounds radiate out from this. Sometimes the layers are meant to compliment the central feature with echoes of shapes and colors. Sometimes the rounds become more complex and intricate. In taking up medallion quilts in this class, Sarah wanted to look at ways to combine elements within a medallion or quasimedallion structure. She wanted to see if we might find new ways to leverage this age-old structure in the service of making modern quilts.
